What Are Floral Bloom Boxes Used For?
This sign is versatile and customizable to fit any occasion you’re celebrating with vinyl decals or simply by changing the wording. These signs are used for weddings, bridal and baby showers, birthday parties, or even graduation ceremonies.
It’s also a great way to display your logo as a vendor or to welcome your customers into your shop!
The part about this box is it's fully customizable! Swap out the wording to perfectly fit your theme and choose flowers that complement your color palette.

What Sets this Sign Apart from Others?
What sets the welcome sign apart from others are the beautiful flowers. The flowers add dimension to the box and catch the eye - making it the perfect sign to display a work logo, initials, or welcome guests.

Styles of Signs
The two most popular styles for this particular sign are the Polaroid and Sandwich styles.
Polaroid Style: As the name suggests, a sign in this style resembles a Polaroid photo. It typically has a rectangle cutout towards the top of the sign, and the bottom more commonly displays a last name and date. This is the style I used to create this tutorial, and it requires an easel or something to hold it up.
I found the cutest easel on Amazon that went so well with this project!

Sandwich Style: Many use this style if they want their flower box to stand alone on the ground. The sign has a box at the bottom holding all the flowers, with text and decals above it. If you'd like to make this version, you can add an extra piece of foam board at an angle along the back of the box.

The wording varies depending on the occasion. Some signs say "Welcome" at the top with a photo below and display initials, last names, dates, or quotes at the bottom.

What Materials Do You Recommend?
I used white foam boards to create this floral bloom box. Foam boards are lightweight, and the thickness is just right, making the sign easy to carry and set on an easel. Also, I wanted my flower box to be white, so there was no need to paint anything.

If you want a heavier-duty design, I recommend using birch wood. Keep in mind, when making this sign with wood or in the sandwich style, the assembly is going to be different than what I'm sharing in this tutorial.
For the text, I used Matte Metallic Permanent Smart Vinyl and cut it with my Cricut Explore 3 machine.
If you don't have a Cricut machine or vinyl, you can create the text using paper, stickers, or paint. Additionally, if you have access to a laser cutter, you can add 3D laser-cut lettering to your sign.

Floral Bloom Box Size
This floral bloom box sign measures 32 x 48 inches. You could easily customize the height of this sign if you'd like it to be shorter.

What Type of Flowers Are Needed For This Box?
My secret to making this bloom box on a budget is shopping for flowers from JOANN's Bloom Room, during their sale. I purchased all of my flowers while they were 70% off.
When picking out faux flowers for your event's floral arrangement, think about what vibes you're going for. Start with the colors—match them to your event's theme or go wild with contrasts for a pop!
Mix it up with different shades in the same color family to keep things interesting. Don't forget about height! Taller stems add drama, while shorter ones fill in gaps. Variety is key—throw in some bold blooms alongside delicate foliage to really mimic nature's diversity. With a little creativity, you'll craft a fake flower arrangement so lifelike, guests will be doing double takes!

How to Make a Floral Shadow Box
Floral Box Pieces
To make this sign, you will need one 36"x 48" Trifold Foam Board and one Trifold Foam Board that needs to be cut down to 36" x 24" by cutting off the flaps.

You will also need to cut two 24" x 2" strips of foam and four 2" squares.

Cut Floral Box
To get started, grab a 36" x 48" trifold foam board, a craft knife, and an acrylic ruler. This board is going to be the front of the sign.
First, the flaps need to be trimmed. The flaps should measure 2 1/4".
So, measure 2 1/4" from the fold, mark with a pencil, and use your acrylic ruler and craft knife to cut a straight line and remove the excess foam.

Next, cut a 20" x 24" rectangle from the center 2 inches from the top and sides of the trifold foam board.

Next, cut off the flaps on the second trifold board to create the back piece for the floral bloom box.
After cutting and trimming the flaps and rectangle cutouts, we have everything we need to move forward and start gluing it all together.
Assemble Floral Box Pieces
Grab the four 2" squares, a fine-tip hot glue gun, and a few hot glue sticks. The four squares are going to create a support for the back piece.
Glue the 4 support squares to the four corners of the board leaving a 1/4" space at the top and the bottom. Fold the flaps in so that they're flush with the squares and glue them into place.

Then, grab the two 24" x 2" strips of foam, apply a strip of glue to the bottom, and attach it to the bottom of the sign, ensuring it's flush with the side pieces, squares, and bottom edge.

Repeat this step to the top of the box with the other 24" x 2" strip of foam.
If you have excess hot glue, you can scrape it away while it's still warm with a Cricut scraper or a credit card for a clean finish.
Pro Tip: Applying glue to all the faces of the squares will help adhere the strips more securely.
Before adding the back piece, glue the two green foam blocks into place a few inches below the rectangle cutout.

Grab the other 36" x 24" foam board. Then, apply glue to the borders of the front piece and the green foam pieces. Next, place the board on top and lightly press it into place.
You can gently lift up on the back piece and add extra glue if you have any spots that need more adhesion.

Pro Tip: While pressing, use a scraper tool to remove any excess hot glue.
Keep pressing the board in place until it dries completely.
Cut & Apply Vinyl Decals
I'm applying vinyl decals to my sign with the sayings "Welcome" and "Love is in Bloom" using a cursive font in Cricut Design Space.

The "Welcome" measures 16.44" x 6.94" and the "Love is in Bloom" measures 12.52" x 6.58".
I'm using a Cricut 13-inch x 3 ft Champagne Matte Metallic Permanent Smart Vinyl roll and my Cricut Explore 3 to cut out these decals. Learn more about smart vinyl here.
Before adding the transfer tape to the vinyl, stick the transfer tape to your clothes so that it's not as sticky. The transfer tape can rip small pieces of the foam board if the adhesive is too strong.
Once your design has been cut, and weeded apply transfer tape to it and use a scraper tool to adhere it to the tape.

Afterward, transfer the design to your sign, while making sure everything is centered. Use a scraper tool to burnish and transfer the design.
Gently peel away the transfer tape. Go slowly to avoid ripping the foam board.

Pro Tip: To help center your designs, you can fold the transfer tape in half or where you think the center of the design is, and pinch the top so that you have a guide.
Add Flowers
It's finally time to add the flowers. I suggest arranging your flowers before adding them to the foam block until you're happy with their appearance.
Once you're happy, carefully slide the flowers into the foam blocks.
