A trip to the beach isn't complete without a statement piece! This carefree silhouette embellished with hot pink pom poms is perfect for a day on the beach paired with a wide-brimmed floppy sun hat. The brightly printed tropical parrots and deep pink florals add a touch of whimsy instantly elevating your poolside look. You're sure to make a splash at your next visit to the beach or pool with this DIY kimono.

Layer it over your favorite skinny jeans with a pair of flirty high heels to make the perfect statement piece for an evening out on the town.

Wear it tied at the waist or let it flow for a carefree boho feel. It's perfect for a sunshine filled day or a breezy evening.

On my last trip to JOANN, I fell head over heels for this gorgeous tropical rayon fabric. It's a lightweight fabric with just enough opacity for beachwear. It features brightly painted, stunning tropical flora and fauna.

Pairing it with this Strawberry Simplicity Ball Fringe Trim gives it a touch of playful whimsy.

Cut out all of the pattern pieces according to the pattern instructions and diagram.

We will be using french seams to finish the inside of the beach coverup. Place the front and back pieces together with wrong sides facing each other. This might seem counterintuitive but it will result in a completely finished seam. Stich the shoulder seams together with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Press the seam allowance towards the back. Fold the shoulder seams together so that right sides are facing each other. This will create an enclosed seam. Stitch along the shoulder seam using a 3/8ths-inch seam allowance.

Now it's time to add the pom pom trim! Attach the trim along the edge of the coverup avoiding the sections that have been marked for the seams under the arms.

Attach the pom pom trim upside down along the edge of the fabric.

This is my favorite way to attach Pom Pom trim. It gives you a finished edge and it allows you to only sew the hem once.

Leave an opening in between the underarm seam markings. If you didn't already transfer the markings from the pattern, do so now.

Sew along the raw edge of the fabric and trim with a wide zig-zag stitch. This will attach the trim to the fabric and keep the fabric from unraveling. Two birds with one stone, right? The far right of the zig-zag stitch should just barely catch the edge of the fabric and trim.

Attach the trim around the entire cover-up.

Create the bias trim by folding the bias tape fabric piece in half and creating a crease with the iron. This will serve as a guide. Fold in the raw edges on each side to align with the crease.

Pin the binding to the neckline of the coverup by aligning the edge of the bias tape to the edge of the neckline with right sides together.

Sew along the crease of the bias tape leaving the first inch of the bias tape unsewn.

Stop one inch before reaching the end. Face the right sides of the bias tape towards each other and sew the short sides together.

Turn the bias tape down towards the wrong side of the fabric enclosing the raw edges. With a warm iron press it in place.

Sew along the edge of the bias trim to secure it in place.

Turn the coverup wrong side out. Align the markings together where the trim has been omitted. Fold the seam allowance over and sew the seam together with a 3/8ths-inch seam allowance.

I’ve been sewing for years but I find your shoulder seam instructions confusing. The pictures didn’t clarify it for me. Help.

Look up "French Seams". I'm sure there's many YouTube videos that explain it.
I came into some yardage of chiffon and that's the way it's finished a lot of the time according to the sites I've been following.
Because the fabric frays so easily you enclose the edges completely within the finished seam.
Listen to me, I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about. Full disclaimer, I've not used a french seam yet, no idea how easy or hard they are
